Location-based storytelling for your community

Turn your streets into a story

A Magical Trail is a fun, interactive adventure your community plays on their phones, stop by stop, through the streets and parks they already know. You can set one up for your area in an afternoon.

What Magical Trails offers

An adventure that happens where you live

Families follow a story through your neighbourhood. At every stop something happens. You decide where the stops go; the story, the artwork and the games are already made.

  • A story that unfolds

A character meets them at the first stop and the tale grows with every one after it. Nobody reads the ending on page one.

  • Riddles that check themselves

Clues found on street signs and posters, typed in and checked on the spot. No answer sheet, no marking.

  • Mini-games at the stops

A dozen or so in every trail: catch, tap, match, shoot, unlock. Quick enough to play in a coat and gloves.

  • Creatures in the camera

Augmented reality that puts a dragon in the park and a hat on your head. The bit that makes kids grab the phone.

Why would you?

Run it for the fun of it, or run it to raise money

Just for the fun of it

A free treat for your school, group or village over the holidays. Share the code, put the kettle on, and let families wander off into the story.

Or make it your fundraiser

Charge a few pounds per family for the code and it pays for itself many times over. You collect the money the way you already do, and keep all of it. Invite-only access is built in.

Why not the paper trail you’ve always done?

Because a piece of paper can’t do this

No waste is the obvious win. The bigger one is everything a Magical Trail does that a printed sheet never could.

The paper trail

  • Printing, laminating, and a pile of soggy sheets by Sunday
  • The same clue at the same lamppost every year
  • Answers nobody checks until the raffle
  • Nothing actually happens when you get there

A Magical Trail

  • Nothing to print unless a trail uses posters
  • A story that unfolds stop by stop
  • Riddles that know when you are right
  • Mini-games and creatures in the camera
  • Live progress and results for you
  • No waste, no bin bags at the end

Sounds complicated?

Clever underneath. Simple on top.

There is a lot of technology in a Magical Trail: augmented reality, GPS, a camera that reads the world. None of it is your problem. Three steps, one afternoon.

  1. Choose a trail

Pick one of our finished trails. Every one has been written, illustrated and played by real families before it goes on sale.

  2. Put it on your map

Type your town or school’s name and it is written through the story. Drop each stop onto your own map in the wizard.

  3. Share the code

Families open a link or type a short code and start straight away. You watch it play, and invite people or keep it open to all.

This is the sort of thing families get at a stop

The Pumpkin Shooter is one of the mini-games from our trails. Out on the trail it uses the phone’s camera and the pumpkins float about in your park. Here on a desk, drag to aim and click to fire.
